Golden Memories of my Magnificent Trip:

I was filled with joy and excitement during my summer holidays in 2000 as I had a chance to visit Europe with my parents and my younger brother Mohit.

Our journey commenced from Mumbai by Lufthansa flight and we reached Paris via Frankfurt. In Paris we visited one of the Seven Wonders of the World, “EIFFEL TOWER” and we had opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of Paris, from this world famous Eiffel Tower. We also visited Euro Disney in Paris, Europe’s biggest theme park and it was nice to meet Disney characters and take photographs with them. We had many fun rides which were very thrilling. But I regret missing the Lido show which is very popular in Paris, as I was a minor that time, but my parents told me that it was a good decent show.

Our Journey continued to Pisa where we saw the “LEANING TOWER OF PISA”, another wonder of the world. We then proceeded to Venice, the city which is surrounded by water and the only mode of transportation in Venice is through water taxis and Gondolas (Boats). We rode in water taxi throughout the city of canals which was a marvelous experience.

Our next destination was Switzerland. We drove through the picturesque locales of Switzerland, mysterious valleys and snow capped mountain peaks before we reached the heart of Switzerland, where the traffic moved in a very organized way. We took a ride in cable car which was a nice experience and visited Mount Titlis, one of the Switzerland’s highest peaks. We had a gala time there playing on the snow. Later, we enjoyed a cruise on Lake Lucern with a Swiss folklore show.

I was thrilled to celebrate my 14th birthday in Switzerland. We had a dance party among our group of 50 people from India and some local people there. The memories of celebrating my birthday in Switzerland (which itself was the greatest gift from my parents) shall be ever green in my mind.

Next day in Switzerland we went to Jung fraujock (highest peak in Switzerland 11,000 feet), The ‘Top of Europe’. We reached the top of the mountain by the rack rail (Highest railway station in the world) which was an exciting ride over the Alpine slopes. From there we went to see the beautiful Trummelbach falls.

We enjoyed the most in Switzerland and next day we proceeded to see Mount Pilatus, the high spot of Central Switzerland. We had an experience of a unique ascent on the steepest Cog Wheel railway in the world to Pilatus Kulm. On top, we enjoyed the magnificent alpine panorama before we made a silent descent by a thrilling aerial tramway and exciting panoramic Gondolas. We later went to see the mighty Rhine Falls. We also took a cruise on the river Rhine which was really a marvelous experience.

Our journey continued to Amsterdam where we visited Keukonhof Gardens and saw beds of Tulips and a major flower show. Later we enjoyed in the Amsterdam canal Cruise.

Our next destination was London and we proceeded to Brussel Station to board one of the world’s fastest trains “The Eurostar” which goes under the sea through English Channel. Travelling by this fastest train was once again a very thrilling experience.

In London, we saw many places like London Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and so on. We also saw the change of Guard ceremony of the palace. I was very excited when we travelled in the underground local railway system of London (tube station) wherein local trains ply below 100 feet from the ground level in tunnels. The people in London had very good etiquettes and when they see any person standing on the footpath waiting to cross the road, they allow them to cross the road first and then the vehicle proceeds forward which was very much liked by me.

From London we boarded the flight to go to Palma from where our most unforgettable and a unique experience of life, travelling by a ship (Cruise) started. We boarded the ship “Sun Bird” a luxury ship which is approximately 400 meters in length, having twelve floors with seven lifts, two swimming pools, a huge sports deck where many sports were being played like Badminton, a gymnasium, sauna, Casio. There was planned entertainment which was going on as per their schedule for all age groups. We had a very good air conditioned cabins with telephone, T.V piped music system. There were on board 1600 passengers in the ship and 500 crew members. We were in the ship for 3 nights and 2 days and travel by ship was a real great experience of my life. We reached Rome and there we saw many places including St. Peters’ Basilica Church. From Rome we boarded the flight back to our mother land and I could feel within my heart the satisfaction of reaching my own country My Mother India.
